Natural Insomnia Cure

Some people that are suffering from lack of sleep tend to think they are the only people dealing with this problem. There is no need to be ashamed of having insomnia because millions of people suffer from the same problem.

Let us look at 5 ways to fall asleep if you are having trouble sleeping.

Use meditation to calm the mind

Meditation can induce sleep and relax the mind and many people have a hard time falling asleep because stressful issues are still on their mind at bedtime. It can help to use meditation to deal with any stressful or emotional problems and a simple meditation session can be done 15 minutes before bed time. It can be done sitting in a comfortable chair or lying in your bed and you simply need to close your eyes and concentrate on your breathing. This will relax the mind and remove any negative thoughts.

Write in a diary

Writing can be emotionally soothing and a stress releaser for some people. It often helps to write in a journal each night before going to bed. Merely write about the events of the day and just let your thoughts flow freely.

Do not go to bed hungry

Sometimes people have problems falling asleep because of hunger pains in the middle of night and making sure that you eat three meals a day and drink plenty of water can help. In addition, you do not want to eat too close to bed time or go to bed on a full stomach. Also, you don’t want to drink too much water or other drinks before going to sleep. A full stomach and a full bladder can cause you to be uncomfortable and unable to sleep.

Read a novel

Many people like to snuggle up in bed with a relaxing novel which allows the reader to escape into another world and to relax their mind. It can help to read for 30 minutes or so before going to sleep. You should not however read anything too 'heavy' as this can have the opposite effect to that which you desire and wake the mind up rather than calm it down.

Start exercising

Many studies have shown that exercising on a regular basis helps people sleep better at night and you should therefore incorporate some kind of exercise into their daily routine. If you do decide to exercise for insomnia however you should exercise during the day and not in the evening shortly before going to bed.

Many people have to make a lifestyle change in order to sleep better and it can be hard cutting out bad habits like smoking but you can take things one step at a time. Small step-by-step changes in your daily routine can make a significant difference to the quality of sleep you enjoy at night.

Finally, it should be borne in mind that some sleeping problems result from serious medical conditions and so, if the self-help methods outlined here do not make any appreciable difference to your ability to sleep then you should consult your doctor.
