Relaxation Through Warmth

This exercise, which focuses on the comfort of warmth, involves a degree of visualization and is excellent for lulling you to sleep.

  • Get into a comfortable position, preferably lying on your back so that your breathing is not hindered.

  • Take several deep, relaxing breaths. Breathe in through your nose and out through your mouth.

  • Now imagine that the surface that you are lying on is beginning to warm up slowly and gently. The heat begins to radiate into your body, relaxing away tense or tired spots.

  • Feel the warmth spread across your entire body. You feel warm and glowing, but not uncomfortably hot.

  • Continue by imagining that your body is melting away, as if you are made entirely of butter. Just continuing to breathe evenly and deeply and let your tension dissolve away little by little.

As you practice these exercises, you'll find it easier to find relaxation and will be able to achieve a state of relation with increasing speed. Don't hesitate to experiment with your own types of visualization to help you achieve relaxation. The possibilities are endless; you could try imagining that you are floating on a cloud, floating in the sea, being massaged, or indeed anything that will help you to feel relaxed and calm.
